A Living History in the Barossa
There is something quietly extraordinary about an old vine. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t rush. It simply endures, season after season, decade after decade, drawing deeper into the earth and, in turn, offering something more profound in the glass.
In the Barossa Valley, we are privileged to care for some of the oldest continuously producing vines in the world. Through the Barossa Old Vine Charter [insert website], these vineyards are recognised and protected, with classifications that honour their age and significance: Old Vine (35+ years), Survivor Vine (70+ years), Centenarian (100+ years), and Ancestor (125+ years). They are living milestones of resilience, history, and craftsmanship.
At Lou Miranda Estate, this legacy is something we live and breathe every day.
A Family Legacy, Rooted in Time
Established in 2005, Lou Miranda Estate is a family-owned winery run by sisters Lisa, Angela and Victoria Miranda, third-generation vignerons continuing a proud Barossa tradition. From vineyard to bottle, every detail is guided by family, experience, and a deep respect for the land.
Across 100 acres of estate vineyards in Rowland Flat & Lyndoch, the Miranda family are custodians of something truly rare: four Centenarian vineyards, with vines dating back as far as 1898. These are not vineyards you simply farm. These are vineyards you care for.
Dry grown and naturally low yielding, old vines demand patience and precision. They produce fewer bunches, but what they give is remarkable fruit with intensity, structure, and a depth of flavour that cannot be replicated by younger vines.
Why Old Vines Matter
As vines age, their roots grow deeper, tapping into layers of soil that younger vines cannot reach. This results in wines that carry a stronger sense of place, what we often refer to as terroir.
Yields are smaller, but concentration is greater. Flavours become more complex. Texture becomes more refined. In short, less fruit, more story.
At Lou Miranda Estate, these precious parcels are reserved for our Heritage Series wines—limited releases that reflect both the vineyard and the vintage. Small batches, carefully crafted, and deeply expressive of the Barossa’s past and present.
From Vine to Glass: A Story You Can Taste
The story of Lou Miranda Estate doesn’t end in the vineyard, it continues in the glass, and ultimately, at the cellar door.
Standing at the tasting bench, glass in hand, everything begins to connect.
The vines.
The history.
The family.
Our Heritage Series wines are a direct expression of these remarkable old vineyards. 1907 Centenarian Old Vine Shiraz, rich and powerful; the 1898 Centenarian Old Vine Shiraz Mourvèdre, layered and savoury; and the 1917 Centenarian Old Vine Grenache, elegant and perfumed. Alongside these sits La Madonna, a special release that brings together Shiraz (planted 1991) with our Heritage Mourvèdre and Grenache, bridging generations of vines in one glass with a sumptuous and silky blend .
These are not just wines, they are time, care, and generations of knowledge captured and shared. We invite you to step into that story. Walk the vineyards, hear the history, and most importantly, taste it for yourself.
Our Cellar Door is open 7 days a week, with our premium tasting experience offering a deeper exploration of our Heritage Series wines and the extraordinary vineyards they come from.
