Fierce III 2022 Shiraz Grenache Mataro

$45.00

At the heart of our winery is family, the seed from which all else grows. The power of three, combining our strengths and passion to make memorable wines. We honour our heritage, embrace the present and toast to the future. Live Fierce!
The grapes for this wine are grown on the Estate vineyards, at Rowland Flat and Lyndoch in southern Barossa Valley. The Shiraz vines are planted on single wire trellising allowing for optimal ripeness, whilst the Grenache and Mataro are Centenarian bush vines. The Shiraz grapes were harvested on the 7th March whereas the Grenache and Mataro were hand harvested on the 7th April allowing for beautiful expressions of varietal characters.
The versatility of the wine will pair with a week date night.

Blend: 80% Shiraz / 13% Grenache / 7% Mataro

Sam Kim, The Wine Oribit – 94 points

This immediately appeals to the nose with blackberry, sweet cherry, cinnamon, toasty oak, and dark cocoa characters. The palate is plump and plush with a gorgeously layered mouthfeel, leading to a persistent, expansive finish.

Ken Garrett – 92 points

An enthralling Barossa blend from a very fine vintage, this wine is based on Lyndoch Shiraz, blended with quality Grenache and Mataro. The wine spent fifteen months in a mix of older French and American oak.

A dark maroon colour, the nose weaves through notes of chocolate, black and red fruits combined, dried herbs, tar, plums, raspberries and blackberries. It offers bold flavours, with fine balance and excellent length. The is generous in the extreme. Seamless and fresh, right through to the sleek tannins on the finish. A wine for enjoying over the next six to eight years.

Q Wines – 91 points

A dense and muscular blend, this Shiraz/Grenache/Mataro from Lou Miranda is steak night ready. Handfuls of black cherries, blackberries, dense plums and baked raspberries rumble from the glass with pan juices and a meatiness that is hard to ignore. Sandalwood, licorice, fruit buns spices and a faint lick of caramel add interest. A tense tannin profile leaves a grainy and dusty feel to muse over. Decant to drink now or hold for the medium term. Good stuff!

Description

Description

Colour: Black Cherry Red with purple hues.
Aroma: Spicy plum, blackberry, cherry and rhubarb with savoury undertones.
Palate: This SGM marries distinctive flavours from all III varietals in the blend. Dark berries and spice from the Shiraz, accompanied by the red fruit of Grenache and savoury Mataro notes. The plush palate is multi-layered with lots of flavour, generous mouthfeel and smooth tannins giving persistence and length.
Vineyard: The 2022 growing season consisted of a wet winter and below average temperatures during summer, which allowed for good set and even ripening.
Making: This wine was fermented as varietal components at 22-28C in stainless steel and open fermenters for 10-15 days on skins. Once pressed off skins each component was put into hogheads to undergo malolactic fermentation. Post malolactic fermentation the wines were racked and returned to the same oak to be matured for 28 months in 90% seasoned and 10% new American oak. Each component was carefully blended to ensure balance of the III varietals. Will cellar for 10 years.

Vegan Friendly.
