SHIRAZ PLANTED 2005 – MATARO PLANTED 1898
Within Lou Miranda Estate vineyards in the Southern Barossa Valley there is a block of bush vine Mataro planted in 1898 making the vines 118 years old for the 2016 vintage. The fruit sourced from this block exhibit intensely brooding earthy sinewy flavours and tannins. This is blended with Shiraz (planted in 2005), the fruit from this block gave rich ripe concentrated fruit flavours. The combination creates a very distinctive highly aromatic flavoursome red wine. Within Lou Miranda Estate vineyards in the Southern Barossa Valley there is a block of bush vine Mataro planted in 1898 making the vines 120 years old for the 2018 vintage. The fruit is sourced from this block, its intensely brooding earthy savoury flavours and tannins. This is blended with Shiraz, the fruit from this block gives intense colour, concentrated fruit flavours with brown spice. The combination creates a very distinctive highly aromatic flavoursome red wine.
The wine experience is a layering of rich, plump ripe dark fruits with a savoury earthiness adding complexity and length. The abundant pronounced tannins of the Mataro for which the variety in known is complemented by the plush richness of Shiraz.
The Shiraz Mataro blend has spent 36 months in predominately seasoned American oak to tame the Mataro tannins and complex the exuberant primary fruit of the Shiraz. The result is a wine that is synergistic and harmonised combining the strength of each variety with the palate having generous complexity, length, structure and rich fruit character combined with oak derived characters and spice with fully matured tannins adding a savoury textural element.
Lingering plum mocha toasty flavours on the finish ensures this deep dark red wine has amazing length and persistence.
