Colour: Very dark red with red tawny hues
Aroma: Complex intriguing nose with earthy, plum & spiced fruitcake characteristics. Strong cedar and toasty notes from extended oak maturation add to the brooding dark fruit, true Barossa, rich red wine style.
Palate: A full bodied wine displaying great palate weight, length and structure. Rich fruit characters are complemented by oak spice and ripe tannins. Concentrated and complex with lingering tannin on the after taste ensures that the wine has amazing length and persistence on the palate.
Wine: The fruit is sourced from our Angel’s Vineyard situated at the Southern part of the Barossa Valley of South Australia and is dry grown. The Shiraz and Mouvedere (also known as Mataro) vines were planted 1897 which means that they celebrated their 116th birthday in 2013. The wine is a blend of 81% Shiraz and 19% Mouvedere and has been matured in oak for 48 months 50% new American oak.
Assessment: This wine is very much in the traditional Barossa red wine style with high extract and tannin balanced by concentrated sweet fruit mid palate. The Mouvedere adds a savoury lingering
aftertaste. Food match with highly flavoured meat dishes such as Osso bucco or Beef bourguignon. Traditional lamb roast, juicey thick fillet steak or barbeque sticky ribs. With careful cellaring and
patience 10-20 years. We recommend decanting prior to serving.
