Getting around the Barossa
You made it to the Barossa. Welcome, Welcome. Now how do you get out and about and around.
One of the main reasons for visiting the Barossa Valley is to partake in wine tastings or indulging in an eating session. If you want to avoid delegating a designated driver I have listed a few ways to get around in the Barossa from the fun and adventurous to the conventional and convenient. When planning your Barossa itinerary you will need to account for the travelling times between the towns. If you go out by bike one day you might want to restrict your travelling to a smaller area such as Lyndoch and the surrounds.
Bike Hire
Winding from the far Southern end of the Barossa and taking all the way to Nuriootpa & Angaston is a two way bike path. Some sections take you on an old train track, others take you through the vineyards, all along the way are pleasurable stops of wineries, cafes and shops. Some parts of the track are challenging, while others are full speed ahead on the downhill. There are two companies that operate bike hires in the Barossa, Barossa Bike based in Nuriootpa & Spinway Adelaide Bike Hire based at the Novotel Barossa Valley.
It might look daunting, but these easy to ride and rather quick machines give you an elevated view of the vineyards. Segway Sensations offer tours on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays and commence at 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm. Tours are of approximately one hour duration (excluding training) and take you on a trail through heritage-listed sites and 19th century Barossa architecture, tranquil gardens and stunning vineyard vistas.
eBike
Coast & Co have a small selection of eBikes available for hire from the Novotel Barossa Valley, this is a fun way to view the region with our the sweat and hard work of a pedal bike. You will zip along the vines at 25km/hr the perfect cruising speed to take it all in.
Taxi
This might sound like an odd option but the Barossa is relatively small and the taxi drivers are all locals. You have the flexibility of moving at your own pace and the comfort of a car. You might find it best to plan your day around visiting an area that has a few places within walking distance and than requesting the taxi take you further afield. For example you could start your morning off in Greenock, visit 2 wineries within walking distance and than have the taxi deliver you to Lou Miranda Estate for a wine experience and lunch.
The taxi services in the Barossa are Barossa Taxis and Barossa & Lights Cabs.
Private Car Service
Other options would be to book a private car service www.barossa.com lists a variety of Tour operators who also provide private car services in the area.
