The Leone Merlot is sourced from our Estate grown vineyards in the Barossa Valley. This wine showcases soft plum & red berry fruit with hints of cassis. The palate is round, generous and smooth with subtle integrated oak tannin. Take a picnic, maybe throw a frisbee with friends, don’t get too sunburnt.

Colour: Deep Ruby in colour
Aroma: Reminiscent of dried Italian herbs, oregano, thyme, fennel seeds and basil. Subtle oak aromas with primary fruit of maraschino cherry and cranberry.
Palate: Medium weight, generous full flavoured with assertive tannins, that are not aggressive. Long lingering after taste, with oak influence minimal and supportive of the primary red fruits present.
Winemaking: The 2020 growing season started dry and continued with the drought conditions, one for the record books. Due to this yields were low and we picked early as fruit was flavour ripe. The Merlot is harvested from estate grown vineyards in the Southern Barossa Valley. Matured in seasoned American oak for 12 months to emphasise varietal character and plump fruit characters and mouthfeel. Fermented at 25-28°C in open fermenters to increase the oxygen contact during fermentation. Modified maceration techniques were used to ensure no over extraction, which is critical for Merlot due to its natural assertive tannins.
Wine: The wine has high concentration of fruit with nuances of oak, assertive tannins and palate length. This wine can be enjoyed with beef cheek ravioli or feta & mint crumbed rack of lamb. Alternatively the Leone Merlot can be drunk on any occasion and with correct cellaring can be enjoyed from many years – Cellar 5-8 years.
