Colour: Dark inky red with deep garnet hues.
Aroma: Dark chocolate covered coffee beans with blackcurrant and
berry fruits. There is light leafy, herbaceous and fennel aromas from
the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit intertwined with sweet vanilla and spice
extracted from maturation in oak.
Palate: Rich, concentrated dark berries, chocolate and anise initially
greet the palate. The sweet fruit intensity is balanced by abundant
pleasantly drying tannins and charry, smokey oak flavours that add
savouriness and length. Lou’s No 1 Choice is full bodied with layers of
fruit, firm and fine granular tannins and persistent finish.
The fruit for 2020 Lou’s No 1 Choice Cabernet Sauvignon is from a
drought affected vintage in the Barossa Valley that severely restricted
yields and the wine shows intense fruit concentration almost liqueur
like. The wine is made in the style that Lou loves. Deep inky colour. Big.
bold rich sweet fruit balanced by strong oak flavours and firm structure
from tannins from both the fruit and oak. The wine components are
balanced and powerful and will complement food but can simply be
enjoyed without accompaniment. We recommend enjoying with rich
meat-based dishes. Cabernet Sauvignon is especially great paired with
lamb as the structure of the wine balances the sweetness of lamb. It
will also pair beautifully with earthy flavours of mushrooms.
Please enjoy 2020 Lou’s No 1 Cabernet Sauvignon from an outstanding
vintage in the Barossa Valley. With correct cellaring this wine will reward
patience and develop greater complexity.
