“This is showing some secondary characteristics of soused dark fruit, coconut and cigar box on the silky palate – it’s very well made. There’s plenty of oak, but it’s sexy and polished, ably balancing the bold fruit.” – TG
“Elegant chocolate and savoury nuances, balanced by perfect fruit, violets and silky smooth grapes. The flavour is polished and wonderful, yet the palate stays restrained and poised. This is Barossa at its best.” – RJ
“Coconut oak behind dark berry fruit. Sinewy palate, tinged with peppery notes. Starting to drink beautifully, but has fruit, weight and power to develop complexity over the next decade. Classic Barossa.” – AR

“Hand-picked, whole berry open fermentation, 8 days on skins, matured for 34 months in American oak (50% new). Within its terms of reference – American oak and 15% alcohol – reflects the concentration of the very old vines, the colour still good, the tannins rounded, the black fruits hinged on those tannins and the centenarian 106yo vines.”

“It’s always special to taste wines that are sourced from vines that were planted over 100 years ago. They are some of the unique vinous treasures that set the Barossa Valley apart from other regions around the world.
The nose is unabashed in its primary fruit with a decadence of charred, caramel like American oak, but it works beautifully with the saturation of blackberry, plum and black cherry.
An impressive wine that holds your interest from start to finish. Deeply satisfying dark berry fruits are joined in concert by decedent spice but also enjoy a slow build of savory flare with an earthy sappiness. There is a generosity of vanillin notes that that provide a textural interlude to brooding dark fruits to finish. The length is considerable.”
Colour: Deep dark red garnet hues.
Aroma: Toasty vanilla notes intermingled with spicey developed fruit aromas of fruitcake/Christmas cake. Very complex, multi-layered and nuanced.
Palate: A structured muscular wine. High tannin and oak is balanced by the intense fruit sweetness of concentrated Shiraz flavours typical from old vines. Generous dark fruit characters are complemented by spicy toasty flavours and ripe smooth tannins. The oak delivers persistence of flavour and length with a distinct vanilla/mocha flavour adding depth.
Wine: Lou Miranda Estate Old Vine Shiraz is sourced from over 100 year old Barossa Valley Estate vines (classified: Centenarian Vines) from the Winery Church block. The vines were planted in 1907 which means that they celebrated their 106th birthday in 2013. The fruit is carefully selected and hand-picked, and the old vine Shiraz typifies the generous varietal characters of the Barossa of plums and clove. Only small open fermenters and gentle handling of the fruit are used to process the grapes to ensure quality from vine to bottle. This is a highly concentrated red wine. Intense flavour is matched with tannin and structure. Big and opulent, food matched perfectly with BBQ Rib eye or fillet steak.
Cellaring: With careful cellaring and patience 20+ years. We recommend decanting prior to serving
7,400 bottles handcrafted.
