James Halliday Wine Companion 2017 – 4 & a half Star
This estate-owned block, with vines 35-70yo, produces a full-flavoured, back-fruited wine that carries its alcohol well until the aftertaste – which would be covered up if the wine was correctly matched with beef, wagyu or not.

“Lou Miranda have access to a number of old vineyard sites in the Barossa with their old vine Shiraz coming from a single Estate block that was planted in 1907, as always it is a pleasure to taste wines from vineyards that helped frame Australia’s vinous history.
A dense red in the glass, this is classic Barossa Shiraz with a nose of dark plum that is given a savoury leathery aspect and a suggestion of milk chocolate. The palate is balanced and showcasing quality oak that gives a spicy aspect to the concentrated red berry fruits. Tannins are gently woven throughout, but are in proportion to the concentrated fruit and vanillin oak inputs. The finish is long and lingers with dark fruits and savoury spice. This wine will last for many years.”
Colour: Deep crimson red with inviting hues.
Aroma: Ripe plum and blackberry fruits with a perfect marriage of rich toasty vanilla oak. Some mocha notes add complexity and depth to bouquet.
Palate: A generous yet elegant wine offering balanced palate weight, length and structure. Plush dark fruit characters are complemented by spicy pepper flavours and ripe smooth tannins. The oak delivers persistence of flavour and length with a distinct mocha flavour adding depth.
Wine: Amazingly, our Lou Miranda Estate Old Vine Shiraz is sourced from our over 100 year old Barossa Valley estate vines (called centenarian vines). The fruit is carefully selected and hand-picked, and the old vine Shiraz typifies the generous varietal characters of the Barossa. Only small open fermenters and gentle handling of the fruit are used to process the grapes to ensure quality from vine to bottle.
Food Matching: This wine can be enjoyed with rack of lamb and will compliment rich sauces. Enjoy now or with correct cellaring can be enjoyed for 10 or more years. To enhance this wine please decanter.
